May Coup (Poland)

1926 · 20th century

The May Coup was the seizure of power in Poland by Marshal Józef Piłsudski from 12 to 14 May 1926. After fighting in Warsaw that killed several hundred people, the government and president resigned. Piłsudski then dominated the Second Polish Republic until his death in 1935 through the Sanation regime, which kept parliament but weakened it.
