Mbona

Also known as Mbona cult

Mbona is a rain cult of the lower Shire valley in southern Malawi, centred on a shrine at Khulubvi. According to tradition Mbona was a rain-maker killed by a chief and later venerated as a spirit who controls rain and fertility. The cult was closely linked with the Lundu rulers of the Manganja, and it remains a focus of territorial ritual today.
