Meiningen
Meiningen is a town in southern Thuringia, Germany, on the Werra between the Thuringian Forest and the Rhön. Held by the bishops of Würzburg and then the counts of Henneberg, it passed to the Saxon Wettins and from 1680 was the capital of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. Its court theatre under Duke George II became famous across Europe in the late 19th century.
