1st or 2nd century CE · 2nd century

Memnon of Heraclea was a Greek historian, probably of the 1st or 2nd century CE, who wrote a history of his city, Heraclea Pontica. Its books 9 to 16 survive in a summary by the Byzantine patriarch Photius, covering events from the tyranny of Clearchus to the time of Julius Caesar. It is an important source for the Black Sea region and the Mithridatic Wars.
