First Mithridatic War
The First Mithridatic War was fought from 89 to 85 BCE between Rome and Mithridates VI of Pontus. Mithridates overran Roman Asia, ordered the massacre of Romans and Italians there in 88 BCE and won over many Greek cities, including Athens. Sulla took Athens and defeated his armies at Chaeronea and Orchomenus, and the Treaty of Dardanos restored the pre-war frontiers.
