Merionethshire

1284–1974 · 13th century · Also known as Merioneth, County of Merioneth

Merionethshire, or Merioneth, was a historic county of north-west Wales, created by the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284 after the English conquest of Gwynedd. It took its name from the early kingdom of Meirionnydd and had Dolgellau and Harlech as its main towns. It was abolished in 1974, and its area is now part of Gwynedd.
