c. 22nd century BCE · 22nd century BCE · Also known as Khety I

Meryibre Khety, often counted as Khety I, was the founder of the Ninth Dynasty of Egypt, ruling from Herakleopolis Magna in the First Intermediate Period. His family, remembered as the House of Khety, held Middle Egypt and the Delta and later contested the south with the rising Theban rulers.
