Meryey

fl. c. 1208 BCE · 13th century BCE

Meryey, son of Did, was a chief of the Libu who around 1208 BCE led a coalition of Libyans and Sea Peoples, including the Ekwesh, Shekelesh, Lukka, Sherden and Teresh, into the western Nile Delta. The pharaoh Merneptah defeated them at Perire, as recorded at Karnak and on the Merneptah Stele, and Meryey fled. The invasion is one of the first recorded movements of the Sea Peoples.
