Michael II Komnenos Doukas
Michael II Komnenos Doukas was ruler of the Despotate of Epirus from about 1230 until his death around 1268. He restored Epirote power from Arta and contested the Byzantine inheritance with the Empire of Nicaea, allying with Manfred of Sicily and the Prince of Achaea, but their coalition was defeated at Pelagonia in 1259. After his death his illegitimate son John I Doukas took Thessaly as a separate principality.
