Miguel Primo de Rivera

1870–1930 · 20th century

Miguel Primo de Rivera was a Spanish general who seized power in a coup in September 1923 and ruled as dictator with the backing of King Alfonso XIII until January 1930. His regime ended the Rif War in Morocco with French help and invested in public works, but lost support amid economic trouble. His fall helped bring down the monarchy in 1931.
