Mir Qasim

d. 1777 · 18th century · Also known as Mir Kasim

Mir Qasim was Nawab of Bengal from 1760 to 1763, installed by the East India Company in place of his father-in-law Mir Jafar. He moved his capital to Munger, reorganised his army and abolished internal duties, which brought him into conflict with Company traders. Defeated in 1763, he joined the Mughal emperor and the Nawab of Awadh, but their alliance lost the Battle of Buxar in 1764.
