Mirabai

c. 1498–c. 1547 · 16th century · Also known as Meera Bai

Mirabai was a Rajput princess and Hindu mystic poet of the bhakti movement, devoted to the god Krishna. Born into the Rathore family of Merta, she is traditionally said to have married Bhoj Raj, son of Rana Sanga of Mewar, and after his early death to have rejected the conventions of a royal widow to live as a devotee. Hundreds of devotional songs attributed to her are still sung across India.
