Miri
Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, Malaysia, near the border with Brunei. It grew up around the first oil well in Sarawak, drilled by Shell in 1910, and became the centre of the Sarawak oil industry. Japanese forces landed there on 16 December 1941 to seize the oilfields, beginning the occupation of British Borneo.
