Person
Mohammed al-Fadl
Mohammed al-Fadl was a sultan of Darfur in the early nineteenth century. The traveller Muhammad al-Tunisi lived at his court between about 1803 and 1812 and recorded a prosperous court and a sophisticated commercial network. His reign saw the Egyptian conquest of Kordofan in 1821, which weakened the Darfur Sultanate's trade.
