Egyptian conquest of Kordofan
The Egyptian conquest of Kordofan in 1821 was part of the expansion of Muhammad Ali's Egypt into Sudan. It removed Kordofan from the Darfur Sultanate, severing its eastern trade connections and diverting Nile valley commerce, which led to a long economic decline that weakened the sultanate.
