Moro people
The Moro people are the Muslim peoples of Mindanao, the Sulu archipelago and Palawan in the southern Philippines, among them the Tausug, Maguindanao and Maranao. The name was given by the Spanish, who fought them in the long Moro wars from the 16th to the 19th century. They resisted American rule after 1899, and Moro identity later shaped movements for autonomy in Mindanao.
