Also known as Illanun, Ilanun, Iranun people

The Iranun are a people of the coast of Mindanao around Illana Bay in the southern Philippines, with communities also in Sabah. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Iranun fleets, allied with the Sulu Sultanate, were renowned as maritime raiders, attacking coasts from the Philippines to the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia and taking captives for the slave trade.
