Mpu Bharada

11th century · 11th century

Mpu Bharada was a Buddhist sage of 11th-century Java remembered in the Nagarakretagama and later Javanese tradition. According to these accounts, King Airlangga asked him to divide the kingdom between two sons around 1045, and he marked the boundary between Janggala and Panjalu, or Kediri, by pouring water from a jar as he flew over the land. He also appears in the legend of Calon Arang.
