Narrative of a Five Years Expedition against the Revolted Negroes of Surinam
The Narrative of a Five Years Expedition against the Revolted Negroes of Surinam is John Gabriel Stedman's account of his service against the maroons of Suriname from 1773 to 1777, published in London in 1796. Illustrated with engravings by William Blake and others, it described the brutality of plantation slavery as well as the landscape and peoples of the colony, and it was widely read in the debate over abolition.
