Nerio I Acciaioli
Nerio I Acciaioli was a Florentine noble who made himself Duke of Athens. From his base at Corinth he took Athens from the Catalan Company in 1388, ending Catalan rule, and was recognised as duke by King Ladislaus of Naples in 1394, shortly before his death. After a period of Venetian rule, his family held the duchy until the Ottoman conquest in the 1450s.
