Neukamerun

1911–1916 · 20th century · Also known as New Cameroon

Neukamerun was the name of the territories that France ceded to Germany in 1911, after the Agadir Crisis, to enlarge the colony of Kamerun in exchange for German recognition of French control of Morocco. Taken from French Equatorial Africa, the lands gave Kamerun access to the Congo and Ubangi rivers. Allied forces occupied them during the First World War, and they returned to France.
