Noto (Sicily)
Noto is a town in south-eastern Sicily. In the Islamic period it gave its name to the Val di Noto, one of the island's three administrative districts, and it was the last Muslim stronghold to fall to the Normans, in 1091. After the earthquake of 1693 destroyed it, the town was rebuilt on a new site in the Baroque style and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
