Old Hittite Kingdom

c. 1650 BCE · 17th century BCE

The Old Hittite Kingdom was the first phase of Hittite statehood in central Anatolia, established around 1650 BCE with Hattusa as its capital. Its early kings expanded into northern Syria, and Mursili I raided Babylon around 1595 BCE. Internal strife followed, and the state later developed into the New Hittite Kingdom, the imperial phase of the Hittite Empire.
