Oleg Sviatoslavich

c. 1053–1115 · 11th century · Also known as Oleg Gorislavich

Oleg Sviatoslavich was a Rurikid prince, son of Sviatoslav II of Kiev and ancestor of the Olgovichi princes of Chernigov. Driven into exile, he used Tmutarakan on the Taman peninsula as a base, at times with Cuman allies, and left it in 1094 to fight for Chernigov. His feuds with Vladimir Monomakh earned him the name Gorislavich, 'son of sorrow', in the Tale of Igor's Campaign.
