Operation Torch
Operation Torch was the Allied invasion of French North Africa in November 1942, with landings around Casablanca, Oran and Algiers. American and British forces met brief resistance from Vichy French troops before Admiral Darlan agreed to a ceasefire. It opened a new front in North Africa, led to the German occupation of southern France and was followed by the Tunisian campaign.
