Osogbo
Osogbo is a city in south-western Nigeria and the capital of Osun State. Around 1840 the army of Ibadan defeated the forces of the Ilorin Emirate there, halting the southward advance of the Fulani jihad into Yorubaland. The city is known for the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, a forest shrine to the river goddess Osun that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
