Yorubaland
Yorubaland is the cultural homeland of the Yoruba people, covering south-western Nigeria and parts of Benin and Togo. It held many kingdoms, among them Ife, regarded as the place of origin, and the Oyo Empire, which dominated the region from the 17th to the early 19th century. After Oyo's collapse, wars between Ibadan, Ilorin, Ijebu and the Ekiti Parapo divided it until British rule in the 1890s.
