Palace of Nestor
The Palace of Nestor is a Mycenaean palace site on the hill of Epano Englianos in Messenia, Greece, about 17 kilometres north of Pylos, traditionally identified with the palace of Homer's King Nestor at "sandy Pylos". A two-storey building with storerooms, workshops, baths and drains, destroyed by fire, it is the best-preserved Mycenaean palace yet discovered. Excavations by the University of Cincinnati and the Greek Archaeological Service, begun in 1939, found more than a thousand Linear B tablets, part of a royal archive showing that it was the administrative centre of Mycenaean Messenia.
