Paquisha War

1981 · 20th century

The Paquisha War was a brief armed conflict between Ecuador and Peru in January and February 1981 in the Cordillera del Cóndor, in a border area left undemarcated by the Rio de Janeiro Protocol. Peruvian forces expelled Ecuadorian troops from outposts that Ecuador had named after the settlement of Paquisha. The guarantor states arranged a ceasefire, but the dispute remained unresolved until 1998.
