Pavapuri

Also known as Pawapuri

Pavapuri is a village in the Nalanda district of Bihar, India, revered by Jains as the place where Mahavira, the 24th tirthankara, attained final liberation in the 6th or 5th century BCE. Its marble temple in the middle of a lotus pond, the Jal Mandir, marks the spot where he is said to have been cremated. It is one of the most important Jain places of pilgrimage.
