Peace of Fexhe

1316 · 14th century

The Peace of Fexhe was a charter agreed on 18 June 1316 between the prince-bishop of Liège, Adolph de la Marck, and the estates of the principality, ending a period of civil strife. It declared that laws could be changed only with the consent of the 'sense of the country', the cathedral chapter, nobility and towns, and it remained the basis of Liège's constitution until 1789.
