Phố Hiến
Phố Hiến was a river port in Hưng Yên Province, south-east of Hanoi, that became the chief foreign trading town of northern Vietnam in the 17th century. Chinese, Japanese and European merchants, including the Dutch and English East India companies, traded there, and a saying ranked it second only to the capital. It declined in the 18th century as the river silted.
