Plan of Iguala

1821 · 19th century · Also known as Plan of the Three Guarantees

The Plan of Iguala was the programme for Mexican independence proclaimed on 24 February 1821 at Iguala by Agustín de Iturbide and agreed with the insurgent Vicente Guerrero. It promised three guarantees: independence under a constitutional monarchy, the Catholic religion, and the union and equality of Spaniards and Mexicans. Its Army of the Three Guarantees won rapid support and entered Mexico City in September 1821.
