Dolores Hidalgo
Dolores Hidalgo is a town in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. On 16 September 1810 its parish priest, Miguel Hidalgo, rang the church bell and called his parishioners to revolt, the Cry of Dolores that began the Mexican War of Independence. The date is Mexico's national independence day, and the town, renamed in Hidalgo's honour, is regarded as the cradle of national independence.
