Pliska

Pliska was the first capital of the First Bulgarian Empire, in north-eastern Bulgaria near Shumen, founded in the late 7th century after the Bulgars crossed the Danube. Its fortified enclosure contained palaces and, after the conversion to Christianity in 864, the Great Basilica, one of the largest churches in Europe of its time. In 893 the capital moved to Preslav, and Pliska declined.
