Podgorica

Also known as Titograd

Podgorica is the capital and largest city of Montenegro, at the confluence of the Ribnica and Morača rivers. Near the Roman town of Doclea, it grew as an Ottoman market town and was gained by Montenegro at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. Heavily bombed in the Second World War, it was rebuilt as Titograd, the name it bore from 1946 to 1992, and became the capital in 1946.
