Polyperchon

c. 394–c. 303 BCE · 4th century BCE

Polyperchon was a Macedonian general who served under Philip II and Alexander the Great. In 319 BCE the dying regent Antipater named him guardian of the kings in preference to his own son Cassander, setting off a civil war among Alexander's successors. Allied with Olympias, he lost Macedon to Cassander by 316 BCE and later held out for years in the Peloponnese.
