Pope Martin V

1369–1431 · 15th century · Also known as Oddone Colonna

Martin V, born Oddone Colonna, was pope from 1417 to 1431. His election at the Council of Constance ended the Western Schism, during which rival popes had competed for nearly 40 years. He returned the papacy to Rome, restored its authority over the Papal States and resisted the conciliar movement's claims to authority over the pope.
