Pratap Singh of Jammu and Kashmir

1848–1925 · 19th century

Pratap Singh was the Dogra Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir from 1885 to 1925. Suspected of disloyalty, he was stripped of power by the British in 1889, and a council under a British resident governed until his authority was gradually restored. His reign saw land settlement reforms and the opening of the Jhelum valley road. His nephew Hari Singh succeeded him.
