Prešov
Prešov is the third-largest city of Slovakia, in the north-east of the country on the Torysa river. A royal free town of the Kingdom of Hungary from the 14th century, it became a centre of Lutheranism, with a Protestant college founded in 1667, and later of Greek Catholic and Rusyn culture. On 16 June 1919 the short-lived Slovak Soviet Republic was proclaimed there.
