Psychological warfare
Psychological warfare is the use of fear, deception and propaganda to weaken an enemy's will to resist. The Mongol Empire used terror against cities that resisted, as in the destruction of the Khwarazmian Empire's cities between 1219 and 1221. Shivaji's Maratha Empire and the Median Empire also used surprise and intimidation as instruments of war.
