Qadmus

Also known as Al-Qadmus

Qadmus is a town in the coastal mountains of western Syria, in Tartus governorate, built around a medieval castle. The Nizari Ismailis acquired the castle in 1132, the first of the fortresses they gained in the mountains of the Jabal Bahra, and it remained one of their strongholds until the Mamluk sultan Baybars took their castles in the early 1270s. It is still a centre of Syria's Ismaili community.
