Alamut

Alamut is a mountain fortress in the Alborz range of northern Iran. From 1090 it was the headquarters of the Nizari Ismailis, sometimes called the Assassins, who resisted the Seljuk Empire. It was surrendered to the Mongols under Hülegü in 1256, an early step in the campaigns that established the Ilkhanate.
