Hasan-i Sabbah

Hasan-i Sabbah was an Ismaili missionary who founded the Nizari branch after the succession crisis of 1094 in the Fatimid Caliphate. From the fortress of Alamut in the Alborz Mountains of Iran he built a network of strongholds. The Nizaris, known as the Assassins, are part of the lasting Ismaili legacy of the Fatimids.
