Order of Assassins
The Order of Assassins is the popular name for the Nizari Ismailis of Iran and Syria in the medieval period, founded under Hasan-i Sabbah in the Alborz mountains. Arising from the Fatimid succession crisis of 1094, they were known for targeted killings of political opponents. Their name gave rise to the English word assassin, and their lineage continues through the Aga Khan, a lasting legacy of the Fatimid Caliphate.
