Qinnasrin
Qinnasrin was an ancient city in northern Syria, south-west of Aleppo, known in Greek and Roman times as Chalcis ad Belum. An important caravan and military town on the desert frontier, it was taken by the Arabs in 637 and became the capital of the military district (jund) of Qinnasrin. It declined after a Byzantine sack in the 10th century, and Aleppo replaced it as the main city of the region.
