Quhistan
Quhistan, or Kuhistan, 'land of mountains', is a historical region of eastern Iran south of Khorasan, around the towns of Qa'in, Tun and Birjand. From the 1090s it was one of the main territories of the Nizari Ismaili state, with many fortresses under a chief appointed from Alamut. The Mongols conquered it in 1256 during Hülegü's campaign against the Ismailis.
