Quintipartite Deed

1676 · 17th century

The Quintipartite Deed of 1 July 1676 divided the English colony of New Jersey into East Jersey and West Jersey. It was signed by Sir George Carteret and by the trustees of the Quaker proprietor Edward Byllynge, including William Penn, and set a dividing line from Little Egg Harbor to the Delaware River. The two provinces were reunited as a single royal colony in 1702.
