Ranthambore Fort is a hill fortress in Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan, India, known in Sanskrit as Ranastambhapura. It was the seat of a Chauhan dynasty from the 1190s until Alauddin Khalji captured it from Hammira Deva in 1301, and later passed between the Delhi and Malwa sultans, Mewar and the Mughals, who took it in 1569.
