Chauhan

Also known as Chahamanas, Chauhan Rajputs

The Chauhans are a Rajput clan of northern and western India, descended in tradition from the Chahamana dynasties that ruled Shakambhari and Ajmer, whose best-known king, Prithviraj Chauhan, fell to Muhammad of Ghor in 1192. Branches of the clan later ruled many smaller states in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Odisha, several of which survived as princely states until 1948.
